Mothers on a Mission: Fighting for Climate Change

Mothers for Climate Change

Mothers on a Mission: Fighting for Climate Change. There are several groups across the U.S. and Canada in which mothers are leading the charge to protect their children’s futures.

1. Mothers Out Front

These groups started in Boston, but now they’ve got teams across the U.S. They’re moms, grandmas, and caregivers. They have decided that when it comes to climate change, enough is enough.

What They’re Doing:

  • Organizing local groups to tackle issues like clean energy and gas leaks.
  • Pushing lawmakers to pass climate-friendly policies.
  • Hosting workshops and info sessions to help other families get involved.
  • Basically, they’re building mom-powered movements, one neighborhood at a time.

2. Moms Clean Air Force

If you want to talk numbers, Moms Clean Air Force has over 1.5 million members. That’s a lot of moms looking out for their kids’ health. Their main focus? Cleaning up the air and cutting down on pollution.

Key Projects:

  • Advocating for electric school buses so kids aren’t breathing in diesel fumes.
  • Working to keep harmful chemicals out of the environment.
  • Teaching parents how to fight for better air quality where they live.

3. Science Moms

This group combines two powerful forces—climate scientists and moms. Their mission? To break down the complicated science behind climate change so the rest of us can understand it (and act on it).

What They’re About:

  • Creating simple, no-nonsense explanations of climate issues.
  • Encouraging parents to push for big changes, like cutting carbon emissions.
  • Building a network of moms who want to protect the planet—and their kids’ futures.

4. For Our Kids (Canada)

For Our Kids is based in Canada, but its message is universal—parents have the power to make change happen. They’re big on local action, helping parents start climate-focused groups in their communities.

Their Focus:

  • Supporting grassroots campaigns, from tree-planting drives to fossil fuel protests.
  • Helping families lobby governments for stronger climate policies.
  • Sharing resources so parents can feel confident taking action.

They make it easy to start small and build momentum from there.

5. Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN)

This one’s a bit broader—it’s not just moms, but women worldwide leading climate initiatives. They focus on amplifying women’s voices in environmental decision-making.

What They’re Doing:

  • Participating in global climate negotiations to push for real change.
  • Running local sustainability projects, especially in Indigenous and rural communities.
  • Training women to be leaders in climate action.

They’re tackling the problem from the ground up. And making sure that women have a seat at the table.

If you’re ready to get involved, check out these groups. Who knows? You might find your people—and a way to turn that climate anxiety into action.
