Hey everyone,
I’ve been following climate science for years, but I just came across a statistic that genuinely shocked me.
I knew the Arctic was warming faster than the rest of the planet, but I always thought it was about twice as fast. Turns out, new research shows the Arctic has been warming nearly four times faster than the global average over the past four decades.
Think about that for a second. While global temperatures have risen by about 1.1°C since 1970, some parts of the Arctic Ocean have warmed up to seven times faster than the global rate. The Barents Sea region alone has seen temperature increases of 2.7°C (4.9°F) per decade.
That’s absolutely bonkers.[nature +1What really gets me is that our climate models have been consistently underestimating this Arctic amplification. The observed warming ratio is so extreme that it’s essentially an “extremely rare occasion” in climate model simulations. This suggests either we’re witnessing something incredibly unlikely, or our models are missing crucial feedback mechanisms
The implications are huge. This rapid Arctic warming is pushing us toward the 1.5°C and 2°C global warming thresholds five and eight years earlier respectively than if the Arctic was warming at the average global rate. We’re literally running out of time faster than we thought.
The Rules of the Pen
1. Be Kind, Always
Respect each other’s ideas, experiences, and journeys. Disagreement? Cool. Disrespect? Please, not here.
2. No Gatekeeping
Remember. Whether it’s a seasoned eco-warrior or someone looking to keep their cucumbers from getting squidgy at the ends. Everyone should feel at home.
Share your knowledge; no snobbery allowed. Everyone starts (and ends) somewhere in this eco-thing.
3. Stay on Topic (Mostly)
We’re here for sustainability and to help each other build resilience. But we all love a good tangent once in a while. Just keep the heart of the conversation relevant.
4. No Junk or Spam
We love your hacks, product reviews, and expertise – but please no blatant self-promotion, MLM schemes, or get-rich-quick pitches.
5. Check Your Facts
Share tips and ideas, but avoid spreading misinformation, especially around sustainability. If you’re not sure, say so. Also, if it’s your opinion, say so.
6. Keep It Family-Friendly(ish)
Let’s aim for a PG-13 vibe. ”No explicit content, hate speech, or profanity” – anything that would make (some of your) grandmothers blush.
7. Credit Where It’s Due
If you were inspired by someone else’s work, give them credit
8. Let me Know

Why a goat?
The myth about goats is that they think everything on earth is put there for them to devour.
The truth? Goats approach everything as potentially consumable., But, being intelligent, curious, investigative and selective creatures, they only consume what will sustain them.
